Tune: 'Linden Tea'
_______________________________________________________
In happy days of
long ago,
I wandered by the stream,
And saw each springtime on the bank,
The starry coltsfoot gleam,
The joyous blackbird sang his song,
Upon the Alder bough,
I wonder if he's singing there,
Besides the Medlock now.
But that was many years ago,
Yet often as in Dreams,
Upon that road of memory,
I walk beside the steam,
And in my heart,
And in my thoughts,
The long years backward fly,
And I am in the vale again,
As in days gone by.
There lies beyond these distant
hills,
My home, that village dear,
Where I shall meet the friends I love,
Their friendly voices hear,
I'll wander through the quiet vale,
And by the babbling brook,
And hear the blackbird sing his song,
Once more, in Daisy Nook. |
