CAMPAIGN NO to new landfill site on Coal Pit Lane 26/03/09
The local Labour party is leading a bid to stop a giant rubbish tip being built on Green Belt land on Coal Pit Lane.

A Greater Manchester Waste Development Plan published in March proposes the massive new tip which would stretch across acres of open land between Bardsley and Crime Lake.

If approved, tipping could start in 2012 and last for more than 10 years and fleets of wagons would ferry in rubbish from far and wide.

This is a crazy idea and we cannot stand by while Oldham gets dumped on by the rest of Greater Manchester.  Coal Pit Lane is in the green belt and we need to fight to keep what little open space we have.  If they get away with this plan then no bit of green belt can be considered safe.  The Tory/Lib Dem Alliance that runs Oldham Council must be forced to object to this plan with the same enthusiasm they show when objecting to tips in Saddleworth.

There is a consultation period, which will end on May 1 2009 and we need as many people as possible to object.  If you don’t want a tip on Coal Pit Lane fill out the form below, or write your own letter of objection and send it in to the FREEPOST address.  The Labour team will make sure that all your objections are fed into the consultation.  You don’t even need a stamp.

I object to proposals to create a landfill site at Coal Pit Lane and want it to be removed from the options for future waste disposal sites in Greater Manchester.

NEWS: Refused, Daisy Nook abuse end in sight 13/01/09

Local residents and visitors to Daisy Nook Country Park have welcomed a council decision to refuse planning permission which would have meant the continuation   trade waste being dumped in the former paddock alongside the visitors centre car park.

Councillor Jim McMahon, who pushed for enforcement action said "this was an abuse of one of the most scenic parts of our town. I am pleased that the council's planning department has refused this application and must now push for enforcement."
