War Memorial rededication date announced
26/05/07 |
 |
Two years of hard work and fundraising are about to
pay off with the completion of the War Memorial
gardens on Oldham Road coming closer.
The official rededication service will be held on
Sunday 10th June 2006 at 11.00am. Residents are
also being invited to join local servicemen and
local dignitaries at the historic service.
The gardens will be handed over the community by
Councillor Jim McMahon, chair of the War Memorial
Steering Group and received by the Lord Leftenant
of Greater Manchester,
Colonel Sir
John Bradford Timmins. |
|
We are also delighted to welcome David Heyes, MP for
Ashton-under-Lyne (which includes Failsworth) on
what is promised to be a memorial day.
Jim McMahon said "the
finishing touches are being completed at the moment
and we are confident the people of Failsworth will
be pleased with the end result. June 10th has been
chosen as it is the same date as the original
opening in 1923, although lets hope we avoid
repeating the weather at the time - it rained
solidly!". |

Have your say on park plans
26/05/07 |
 |
Local Councillor Barbara Dawson is starting her new
role as Chair of Friends of Higher Failsworth
Memorial Park with a big push to get local residents
involved.
Barbara, has been working closely with fellow
councillors and council officials to prepare a
winning lottery bid for Higher Memorial Park, and
now it's time to go to the drawing board and make
the ambition of local people into a plan. |
|
A Friends Workshop has been organised for local
people to turn up and tell us their thoughts,
concerns and aspirations for the park which will
help inform the new design.
The event will be held at New Life Church, Thorley
Street, off Pole Lane on the 11th June at 5.30pm and
is expected to last around 2 hours.
We look forward to seeing
you there. |

ELECTION NEWS
Labour retain Failsworth seats
04/05/07 |
|
AFTER A
COUNT lasting until 2am, the Failsworth Labour were
celebrating news that both Failsworth East and West
seats had been held, in a night of mixed results in
Oldham.
Sadly
Labour lost neighbouring Hollinwood ward to the
Liberal Democrats, losing an excellent local
councillor in Steve Williams. Steve will be missed
from the council a great deal.
The
election was fought on a track record of hard work
and delivery, and we wanted to take this opportunity
to thank everyone who came out to vote Labour. It is
only with your support that we can continue to fight
for a fair deal for Failsworth.

|
In East ward local candidate
Jim McMahon retained his
seat and in his 3rd election
increased the Labour vote
from the previous year.
Jim has worked hard to over
the last three years and has
made real improvements to
his ward, and this is
reflected in the outcome.
Jim told us "the result was
fantastic and shows that
hard work pays off. Without
the support of fellow
residents I could not have
achieved this, and to them I
am extremely grateful and
promise to continue our
fight for a fair deal for
Failsworth." |

working along side the
strong Labour team in
Failsworth and committing to
continuing the fight to
improve our town.

STANNYBROOK ROAD - Safer and more fitting! |

10/04/07 |
CAMPAIGNERS ARE CELEBRATING the completion of the
safety barrier at Stannybrook Road, Daisy Nook.
The
barrier separates the road from the River Medlock
and is essential to stop cars from landing in the
river when they lose control down the steep
approach.
The work
was funded by the LTP (Local Transport Plan) after
intervention by local councillors and residents. |
