Medlock Road/Vale Lane Closure

!

Medlock Road will be closed at the bend at Vale Lane for two weeks commencing 8 May 06.  This is so that drainage works can take place to get rid of surface water.

Can you help identity local graffiti yobs? (23/04/06)

A gang of youths have plagued Higher Failsworth over the last few months with the tag 'T3'.

Mainly on houses and walls, the tag is simple, but indiscriminately placed on almost anything these people walk past in and around Ashton Rd East, Partington Street and Roman Road.

The council is removing the graffiti free of charge to homeowners affected.

If you know who might be carrying out this mindless act contact us at jim@failsworth.info , or contact Failsworth Police Station directly.

Stannybrook Road Funding Win (22/04/06)

After a year of campaigning for improved road safety at Stannybrook Road, Daisy Nook we have been successful in a £500,000 bid from the Local Transport Plan.

The money will be used to rebuild the battered fence separating the river from Stannybrook Road with something more fitting for a country park, repair the retaining walls and install road safety measures such as rumble strips to slow traffic down and prevent more accidents at this black spot.

Daisy Nook Gypsy Camp? Nonsense! (18/04/06)

Rumours that Daisy Nook was being considered by Oldham Council and the Gypsy Council have been rubbished by both parties.

The rumour was printed in last weeks Oldham Advertiser and since then our inbox and the Failsworth Forum have been filled with concerned residents who protest at our country park being used for any kind of camp or housing.

Readers can be assured we would not support any development in Daisy Nook, which is seen as Failsworth's hidden Jewel, including a camp of any kind. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep residents informed.

Ashton Road East Planters (17/04/06)

I was hard at work over the Bank Holiday weekend planting the tubs at Ashton Road East.

The plants were funded by the Failsworth Carnival from the money raised at the annual event.

In addition to the Carnival contribution the area committee have also funded hanging baskets and a 3 tier planter which will enhance the parade further.

Although the first 6 months seen minor vandalism the plants held out OK. Lets hope these replacements are looked after.

Health Centre attracts Ministerial attention (13/04/06)

Failsworth was host to Minister for Public Health Caroline Flint, MP.

Mrs. Flint was in Failsworth to see our state of the art Health Centre which is seen as a exemplar in the way local health facilities should be provided.

In addition to the many services already offered at the centre she was on hand to hear news that Failsworth will get it's very own MRI CT Scanner which will aid in early detection of illnesses.

As well as this excellent news local people will be pleased to know that the PCT have employed a new NHS dentist to work from the Health Centre from May - watch this space for more information!

Ground breaks at Failsworth Centre (13/04/06)

Work has begun on the new Tesco supermarket which is hoped will transform the site into a vibrant centre for the people of Failsworth.

Planning permission was granted last week and developers wasted no time in erecting the boundary fence and breaking ground.

Councillor Peter Dean says "this is a huge leap forward for Failsworth and at last the light at the end of the tunnel is in sight".

Work begins at Recreation Rd field and Westminster Gardens (07/04/06)

Work has started on transforming Recreation Road field with new fencing and trees.

The work which was funded by the lottery will see over £45,000 spent on upgrading the facilities for footballers and other users of the field.

School Children from Higher Failsworth Primary School were involved in planting whips at Westminster Gardens where contractors are due to start on site this Monday to create a new park for Failsworth.

Peter, seen showing the new whips says "this part of Failsworth needs investment in it's open spaces and this will go some way to help that. Work is still ongoing for a lottery bid for Higher Memorial Park which if successful will see over £400,000 invested in the park".

Ben Brierley Statue almost there! (06/04/06)

I visited the foundry in Doveholes yesterday to inspect the bronze cast statue of Failsworth born poet, Ben Brierley.

I'm impressed and I'm sure you'll agree it will look great when it is installed in mid May.
