Men in bright yellow jackets cause a stir! (22/02/06)

Reports of Men in yellow safety jackets on the district centre site have caused a bit of a stir - 3 email already today to let me know.

No doubt Tesco aren't going to waste time now and have begun a site survey ready for the building to begin in a few months.

Roman Road Resurfacing (22/02/06)

The length of Roman Road from Westminster to Ashton Rd East will be resurfaced next financial year (April 06 - March 07).

Both the carriageway and pavement will be done at a cost of of around £250,000.

Failsworth may soon look blooming lovely (22/02/06)

The Environment Sub Group (part of the area committee) will recommend to the Failsworth and Hollinwood Area Committee to fund the following greening projects this summer;

Ashton Road East - Hanging Baskets & 3 tier planter (in addition to the 6 planters funded by the Failsworth Carnival)

Main Street/Pole Lane area - Hanging Baskets or Planters

Lord Lane Shops - Hanging Baskets

Poplar Street (nr Morrison's) - Hanging Baskets

A final decision will be made at the Area Committee in March ready for June's planting season.

Bench sparks debate (10/02/06)

Bench sparks debate (10/02/06)

After I enquired about this bench it transpired it was now surplus to requirements and we were offered it for just £1,500, the material cost of producing it.

I then put a grant application into the Area Committee where it was seized upon by a disgruntled Green Party candidate as a waste of money which will only be vandalised.

Funny enough the other £60,000 for the scheme was not even questioned - anyone would think the elections are coming.....

What are your thoughts, a waste of taxpayers money which will only be vandalised, or it is keeping our promise to fight for a better deal for Failsworth by improving our local parks?

Remember if you live in the Westminster Road area and want to be involved in the community garden project we are always looking for more helpers. Email jim@failsworth.info with your details and I will let you know when the next meeting is. Thanks, Jim

Local Manchester City Fan Site Set Up (02/02/06)

Not one to normally get involved in football, but I was impressed at this local site for Failsworth Fans of Manchester City Football Club.

Take the time to have a luck and show them your support, and in the interests of fairness I am happy to feature a Manchester United Site too, might have to sell me the idea of an Oldham FC link though ;).
