Ben Brierley Statue
gets closer to completion (30/01/06)

Work to bring Failsworth it's own
statue of Ben Brierley reaches a new stage as the artists
clay is approved.
The statue forms part of the Failsworth Pole makeover, a
£400,000 scheme to renovate the historic heart of Failsworth.
The bronze cast statue, measuring 8 ft will take pride of
place in the gardens near to the Rocks, the birthplace of
Ben Brierley.
In addition, and to add to the theme the new housing
development near to the pole will have it's street named Ben
Brierley Wharf. |
CCTV Coming to
Oldham Road (30/01/06)

A long awaited scheme to bring
CCTV coverage to Oldham Road in Failsworth gets the thumbs
up by council leaders. It
will see full coverage from the M60 down to Broadway and
will include coverage of the Rochdale Canal and Failsworth
Pole.
The system being used will be
monitored at Failsworth Police Station, Oldham Council's
Control Room and Police Officers will be able to view the
scenes whilst out on the streets thanks to it's ability to
be dialled into remotely. |
Work well underway at

Most of you will have noticed work
pressing ahead at Failsworth Pole gardens as the £400,000
project makes good progress for it's March deadline.
The money was raised through Housing
Market Renewal and European development funding and will see
the gardens and The Rocks updated, together with the Ben
Brierley statue. |
Design for new
Failsworth School unveiled (30/01/06)

A partner has
now been selected to build the new £30million pound high
school on Brierley Avenue.
It is hoped
building work will begin in June on the new school which
will be located in front of the existing building.
Once opened the
old school will be demolished to make way for improved
recreational facilities for pupils. In addition the new
school will be able to cater for the 1500 pupils - this
means the school will introduce a policy of not allowing
pupils out at lunch time. |
District Centre
Update (30/01/06)

Tesco have now agreed terms and
conditions with the developer OPP after months of
negotiation. A detailed planning application will now be
developed and submitted to the council for approval.
Tesco have indicated a start on site
in May/June although the detail around the new community
centre is still being drawn up by a special sub group made
up of users, council staff and councillors. It is hoped a
planning application for the community centre will be
submitted over the next couple of months. |
Failsworth East
Parks Refurbishments (30/01/06)

By the end of March EVERY
park and council owned non-school playing field in
Failsworth East would have seen real investment in local
recreational facilities.
Higher Memorial Park - (est.
£30,000) Upgrading of new Childrens Play Area.
Higher Memorial Park - (est.
£50,000) Improving path at Cheetham Street with better
lighting, cycle lane and resurfacing (not part of the March
deadline but will be complete this year we are told).
Limeditch / Recreation Road - (est. £45,000)perimeter
fence and tree planting.
Westminster Road - (est. £60,000) Creation of new
park.
Woodhouses Park - (est. £30,000) General upgrade and
improvements. |
Danger of Stannybrook
Road (30/01/06)

Many of you will have noticed the
concrete crash barriers along Stannybrook Road, Daisy Nook.
These have been installed to prevent accidents but look
unsightly and not in keeping with it's surroundings.
Following intervention by local
councillors a full safety scheme is being developed by the
council which will see the retaining walls replaced, road
resurfaced and the barriers and lampposts replaced. |
