Graffiti clean up planned for Failsworth East (18/05/06)

Oldham Council have agreed to remove over 150 incidents of graffiti in Failsworth East as part of a campaign to clean up the town.

Local Councillor Jim McMahon told us " I got so fed up of seeing graffiti spoiling the area that I personally photographed over 150 areas which I then passed onto local Police and Environmental Services at the Council. Normally homeowners are recharged for graffiti removal but pressure was applied which will mean the victims of graffiti will not be charged".

Disappointingly, only 2 of the areas identified by Jim were reported by the homeowners before the audit, Jim went on to say "this is not just about the property which has been vandalised - the effect on our community when the area is vandalised means people feel uneasy and unsafe. It is important that this kind of crime is reported so it can be removed as soon as possible, we all have a duty to look after our area".

For a full list of hotspots just email me at jim@failsworth.info , the file was too big to post on the server. If I have missed some, report it directly to the council by phoning 0161 222 6644.

Police are investigating all the incidents highlighted in the report.

Local Election Results for Failsworth (06/05/06)

The local elections are over and despite the national issues which have dogged the Labour Campaign both Failsworth East and West seats were held.

The campaign was fought on delivering promises and highlighting the work rate of local Labour councillors.

We are grateful to those who went to the polls and voted Labour and promise to continue our hard work for Failsworth.
