Library
Maintenance Highlighted |

Library
 |
Failsworth Library is the hub of the
community and is an excellent resource for local people -
more than enough reason to look after it.
For some time basic maintenance was
not being carried out, to the extent that window sills were
rotting and falling apart.
Councillor Jim McMahon said "we
have to look after our civic buildings and maintain them
properly. Failsworth Library is not an old building, but it
still requires maintenance. Without basic maintenance it can
be a slippery slope to decline".
After meeting with the Head of
Libraries at the Main Street Library to highlight his
concerns the council have now committed to repairing the
damaged sills and carrying out full external painting.
Jim went on to say "I am pleased
the officers took our concerns seriously and they have been
excellent in securing the resources needed for the exterior
repaint".
Work is expected to begin to repair
and repaint the windows, doors and wooden panels over the
coming weeks.
Remember; Failsworth Library is a
great community resource with excellent staff and services.

Thumbs up
for new housing development |

development. |
Councillor Barbara Dawson gave a
thumbs up to the new housing development off Claremont
Street as developments approach the home straight.
Modern and luxurious housing was a key
part of the regeneration of Failsworth and with 80% already
sold it is clear they have been met with a seal of approval.
Barbara said "the development will
go hand in hand with the Pole upgrade and supermarket to
help regenerate Failsworth". |
Local councillors also fought for affordable housing to form
part of the development so that first time buyer can get on
the housing ladder.

 |
Local Groups in Failsworth are being
urged to apply for funding they could be missing out on.
Grant funders such as the lottery are
always keen for good community lead projects to come
forward, and the funding they offer can make a huge
difference to groups, and to our community.
Residents on Ellesmere Street,
Failsworth, contacted local councillors for help to
transform the overgrown alleyway to the rear of their homes.
The scheme shown to the left,
created a space where their children could play safety, and
where the grown up's could socialise.
Jim said "this was a great scheme,
lead by the residents so it wasn't surprising they were
successful in all their funding bids. We were only too
pleased to help and give guidance, and hope more people take
up the chance to get their project funded".

Completed scheme on Tavern Court.
 |
Residents living at the flats on
Hibbert Crescent will feel much safer, thanks to a new
fencing scheme. Residents
contacted local councillors to highlight the problems being
faced with youths around the flats, which lead to them
feeling intimidated.
Councillor Jim McMahon, who
represents tenants on the Local Housing Board made the case
for fencing at the scheme. Now, the Housing Local Board has
allocated £60,000 to help secure the properties.
Jim said "this scheme is designed
for older people and providing this barrier to separate the
street from the communal gardens will make residents feel
safer in their homes. It has worked wonders on nearby Tavern
Court and we hope to repeat that success".
Residents are currently being
consulted with by housing officers with the scheme due to be
completed before December. |
